The DSK Project has seen many different faces over the years.
The initial project homepage looked completely different than it does now. You can see the transformation the site has taken over the years via the thumbnail images in the right-hand margin.
In 2005, the only functional features of the site consisted of “The Story” and a partial “Timeline”.
Towards the end of that year when Balbir Uncle was hopsitalized in Toronto, I started to realize the urgency that was required as ultimately no one’s getting any younger.
In January of 2006, I purchased the domain DIALSINGHKALSI.COM and decided to transfer all of my work over to this new location. I began digitizing all of the old photographs in my grandfather’s photo albums as well.
I was fortunate enough to share the project with my grandmother, Pragya Kalsi, before she passed in July of 2006. However, at that time I decided to take a hiatus from the project and leave it where it was until I was ready to deal with it again.
In October of 2008, I traveled to India and met Gogi Auntie who was able to renew my enthusiasm through various pictures, creations, and first hand documents from Pitaji himself.
On June 24, 2009, Kulwant Uncle passed away in London, England. While Uncle is no longer with us, his experiences live on through his son Ajay. When the family came to Canada the following year, Ajay Uncle and I discussed some potential video content for the project.
During the summer of 2011, I gave the site one last face lift that dramatically changed the look-and-feel. This new layout offered new levels of interactivity and was more conducive to commenting and leaving feedback.
From here on in, my hope is for everyone to continually send in content, pictures, videos, links, comments, or pretty much anything. Even if it’s a family picture from a week ago, it’s history.
